Gentlemen, start your engines – and help prostate cancer research

"Halifax Regional Police Officers ready to Ride for Dad..."
We use mortorcycles to attract attention. But the ride is really about cancer-- and saving men's lives," says Garry Janz, the event Founder and President.
As many as 200 mortorcycle riders will take to the streets of Halifax to raise funds for cancer research. It is Nova Scotia men and their families who have been touched by prostate cancer, or are at risk of developing the disease, who will benefit the most.
"Incredibly, radical prostate cancer is now the most common open surgical procedure performed by the department of Urology at the Q.E.II Health Sciences Centre. We need to learn more about the causes, and the treatment, of prostate cancer ," says Frank Sobey, Chair of the Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation Board.
The Ride For Dad was started seven years ago by Garry janz, who organized the inaugural motorcycle fundraiser in Ottawa. That year the event raised $23,000 for prostate cancer research and eduaction. Since then the event has spread across the country - raising more than $1.5 million. This year there will be 13 Ride for Dad events across the country from Calgary to St. John's, including the first one in Nova Scotia.
The Ride for Dad hs selected Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation as its partnership charity and proceeds from the event will go directly to furthering our understanding of prostate cancer through research.
