An artist’s gift

Susan Hubley has certainly made her mark on Molly’s Garden Party. For three years, she has donated a painting to the event’s live auction.

"This is something I can do to help,” says Susan, a Halifax-based expressionist artist whose work is found in private collections throughout North America and overseas. “I enjoy the event and I think it’s a really worthy cause.”

Colour is at the forefront of Susan’s artistry. “To me it’s like solving a puzzle, but it has to do with how colours react next to each other or how shapes of colours react next to each other,” she says. “That is what I’m interested in, and whether that comes out as flowers or landscape or expression or abstraction, it really has to do with colour, with line, with form, with texture.”

The works of Henri Matisse, Raoul Duffy and Tom Thomson have been a source of inspiration for Susan throughout her 35-year career.

“Susan’s work is a visual delight,” says Jyl MacKinnon Crowell, Director of Annual Giving, Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation. “We are grateful for her generous support of medical research through the gift of her art.”
